PROGRAMME

DAY 1 » ARRIVAL TO HAVANA

You will be welcomed in Havana at the Jose Marti International Airport and transferred to Beltran de Santa Cruz hotel in the old part of the city. Accommodation will be on Bed & Breakfast basis. You may spend the night strolling around or resting to get your batteries charged for the next day.

DAY 2 » DISCOVERING COLONIAL AND MODERN HAVANA

Right after breakfast, your guide will take you for a walking tour around Old Havana historical centre to discover the architectural beauty of this city. Make sure you wear comfy shoes for you stroll along the cobbled-streets to visit the main squares of the colonial area: Plaza de Armas, Plaza de San Francisco de Asis, Plaza Vieja and Plaza de la Catedral. Then, give a rest to your feet and get on the car with your guide who will take you to see the modern part of the city with various stops at some of their best attractions: The Capitol building, the Revolution square and the Hotel Nacional de Cuba. Photographing is a must while you are driven along former residential neighborhoods Vedado and Miramar to appreciate different architectural styles. A typical lunch is included at a local restaurant. After this magnificent day of Havana insight, you will be transferred to your hotel for the night of your choosing.

DAY 3 » TREKKING IN SAN DIEGO DE LOS BAÑOS

After an early breakfast and making sure you have a perfectly comfortable outfit, you will depart with your local guide to this adventurous journey. Immerse yourself in the only trail that goes through xeromorphic shrubs. The trajectory is relatively easy so you will be able to admire every single detail before your eyes. Discover the diversity of flora and fauna of this area and its surroundings. Located on the high plateau of Sierra de Cajalbana, the place is characterised by having more than 60% of endemic plants, such as the plus tree. Fauna accounts for about 10% of endemic species; amongst them is the smallest frog in the world. Trek through plains and mountains. Get acquainted with the local inhabitants, their customs, and learn about the area and its natural assets. In order to maximize your time with nature, a box lunch will be provided. Afterwards, you will be transferred to La Moka Hotel in Las Terrazas, where you will stay for 2 nights.

DAY 4 » BIRD WATCHING IN LAS TERRAZAS

After having your first meal of the day, you will meet your guide to live a totally new experience. This time apart from comfy clothes and shoes you should include binoculars in your bag. Take the opportunity of learning about Las Terrazas Sustainable Project while having a welcoming cocktail on site. Proceed on a bird watching expedition through a medium difficulty trail that goes up to 2500 m high. The tour comprises the observation of 119 bird species, including many Cuban endemic and migratory. A box lunch is included to maximize your hours of trekking and sightseeing. Afterwards, you will be transferred back to your hotel for the night of your choosing.

DAY 5 » MOVING TO VIÑALES

After breakfast you will have the morning at leisure until transferred to a private house accommodation in Viñales, where you´ll have the opportunity to taste a homemade delicious dinner and spend two nights.

DAY 6 » EXPLORING THE BEAUTY OF VIÑALES

Breakfast will seem a lifetime when you wake up and get into your comfy shoes and clothes. On your 6th day in Cuba, you will discover the amazing beauty of Viñales during this approx 8000 m hike out through the heart of the valley. Follow your local guide along cultivated fields as well as up the mid-difficulty hills to better appreciate the native vegetation of the area and its rare fauna of birds and insects: the Todus Multicolor or cartacuba, the Cuban trogon, the Cuban woodpecker, the Cuban solitaire as well as a giant ant nest! From the top of the hill, you will enjoy superb views of the valley. Afterwards, you will be returned to your private house accommodation.

DAY 7 » TRAVELLING TO A BIOSPHERE RESERVE

After a pleasant breakfast, you will move on to a private house accommodation in Playa Larga, Matanzas Province, where you will enjoy dinner.

DAY 8 » DISCOVERING THE NATURE WONDERS OF A RAMSAR SITE

After feeding your body, you´ll be ready to feed your spirit with this extraordinary excursion. Trek the Zapata Peninsula’s bird watching spots to make contact with over 150 species of birds including the zunzuncitos (Cuban bee hummingbird), a rare type of bandicoot, water hen and various species of parrots and herons. There are plenty of sites for bird watching in the area such the migratory bird reserve of Las Salinas, Bermejas, Soplillar, Los Hondones, Santo Tomas and Hatiguanico. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to spend as you prefer. You may ask your guide for some tips.

DAY 9 » GETTING ACQUAINTED WITH TWO CENTRE CITIES

This will be quite a busy day for you´ll get to know two very important destinations. After breakfast, you will be privately transferred to Cienfuegos to spend half a day unveiling the secrets of this marvelous city, the so called Pearl of the South. You will enjoy a panoramic tour through the National Monument (La Punta), El Palacio de Valle and El Paseo del Prado. Stroll along the boulevard to visit the monument to one of Cuba’s most treasured musicians, Beny More. Make the most of your time in the city’s heart by visiting the Cathedral as well as the Thomas Terry Theatre, one of Cuba’s oldest and most beautiful theatres (entrance fee included). You will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and a complimentary drink is also included. In the afternoon you will continue your trip to Trinidad, where you will enjoy dinner at a private house accommodation and stay for 2 nights. You may spend this first night wandering around the city.

DAY 10 » INTRODUCING THE STUNNING CODINA PARK AT THE ESCAMBRAY

While you enjoy your breakfast, do not forget to take your bathing suit together with your comfy shoes and clothes. Once you have put on your outfit, you are ready to celebrate nature by visiting this site situated at 9 kms from Topes de Collantes. This trail is a real ecological hideaway to fight stress. It will lead you to see an orchid and bamboo garden, high percentage of endemic flora and fauna, caverns, lookouts, picturesque landscapes and special sites for meditation. Lunch is included. At the end of the excursion, you´ll be taken back to your private house accommodation in Trinidad.

DAY 11 » EXPLORING THE CITY OF CHE GUEVARA

After the first meal of your 11th morning, you will depart to the so-called city of Che Guevara. There, you will explore the historical past of Santa Clara through its revolutionary legacy. Situated in Central Cuba, Santa Clara is steeped in history as a result of the battles that took place during the Cuban revolution. You will visit the Ernesto “Che” Guevara Mausoleum, the Armoured Train Park-Museum, Leoncio Vidal Park and the Boulevard. Lunch is booked at a local restaurant. Later, you will be transferred to a beautiful homestay where you will enjoy local cuisine in the evening and stay for 2 nights.

DAY 12 » HIKING THROUGH A PROTECTED AREA

Satiate your appetite with breakfast because this will be a long day. Wearing your usual comfortable clothes and shoes you will be transferred to Rancho Querete, belonging to the non-restricted area of the Jobo Rosado protected area at the Sierra de Meneses and Cueto. Admire virgin landscapes of northern Sancti Spiritus including Valdes´cave and La Solapa de Genaro trail. Hike through Jobo Rosado and continue to the Maria Goya path, spot used by Maximo Gomez and his troops when he took the Narcisa sugar mill in Yaguajay during the invasion from East to West of the entire island. Lunch is included at Chalet Los Alamos. Later, you will be returned to your homestay in Santa Clara for a well-deserved rest.

DAY 13, 14, 15 » RELAXING AT A PARDISIACAL BEACH HOTEL

After lots of trekking through mountains and valleys it is time for you to relax for a few days at this all-inclusive Beach Resort. Sunbathing at the swimming pool or at the beach or a catamaran ride will certainly be appreciated by your senses.

DAY 16 » LEAVING CUBA

Sadly, holidays are almost over. You may spend your trip back to Havana International Airport sightseeing, texting your friends and reviving all of your recent experiences.
